Questions about Mexico Money: Bring some US cash with you and your bank card. There are bank machines in Melaque and Barra de Navidad and of course Puerto Vallarta, the Mexicans make it easy to access money. They want yours! Visa works in the bigger towns and hotels i.e. Puerto Vallarta but not La Manzanilla or Yelapa its cash only. The days rate is about 11 pesos to the US dollar or 8 to 9 pesos to the Canadian dollar.
Clothing: It is almost always warm so bring your tropical outfits or plan to go shopping! Light cottons for yoga classes and some stretchy outfits. The evenings can be cooler so a shirt or light jacket, even a sweater on hand may be appreciated. Tevas or water sandals and good walking runners for hiking. Bathing suits and sarongs for the beach and sun hats and sun block. We can access shade during the days as there are palapa covers on all the beaches.
The beaches on Tenacatita Bay are safe to swim everyday and do not have bad undertows. La Manzanilla's beach is flat and firm for great walking, a walk to Boca de Iguana and back is about 10KM. There is some pretty decent snorkeling in La Manzanilla so if you are keen pack your own snorkel and flippers, I will have 2 sets available.
Food: is delicious and fresh. There are of course an abundance of fresh fruit and vegetables and since we are on the coast you will have as much seafood as you like, as well as Mexican beef and chicken and some good vegetarian dishes. Yolanda's especially has Indonesian and Thai style dinners. All salads or raw food we eat will be washed with filtered water (we haven't had any tummy problems in this area). There will bottled water provided at each hotel. There is a small clinic in La Manzanilla and Yelapa and doctors, dentists and yes chiropractors in Melaque.
Ok folks as questions are asked I will do my best to answer them and post them here. For reference books we like Lonely Planet Mexico.
As for falling in love with this place and wanting to buy property you are on your own but many a realtor who would happily help you!! Check out this site for more information: www.lamanzanilla.info
